Collection: Tableware - Placemats, Napkins & Runners

Our handwoven place-mats and napkins make beautiful and functional additions to any dining table.

We mainly use a base of cotton for these items, so that they can be washed frequently and are durable; silk weaves add sophistication though more care is needed for laundering.

Our cotton is dyed by hand at our studio using use local plants = which can include gooseberry, catchu, yellow rice tree, turmeric, lapis lazuli, almond.   We then add weaves using contrasting cotton colours, silk, lotus or banana fibres; we also use a technique called supplementary weft.

The fabric weights vary depending on the purpose – for place-mats we use ‘16 twisted’ threads to produce a fabric heavy enough to protect your table against heat - whilst napkins use double or single threads so that they are light and soft to the touch.

Each piece may have slight variations depending on the dye colour-strength and the techniques of individual weaver – this adds to its charm!

We are happy to create bespoke colours and designs!  For more information, contact us on silksmiths@pochisilk.com.
